Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen (St. Francis of Assisi)

Yeah! It's taking all my self-control to restrain myself from caching on a bonus day off work! We went caching in the snow in North GA the week after Christmas, but it was soft and powdery. The ice factor today has me a little iffy about going out.

I drove into work at 6:00 am this morning and found a empty parking lot. I could've unlocked and worked but it was 28 and rain/sleet so i figured it would just get worse. came back home before the sleet gets packed to Ice.

J.C. normally loves the snow, but he does not like this ice on top of it. As he runs it is breaking and the like. I took a video of him coming back to the house taking ginger footsteps. He spreads his paws out trying to walk on top of it, but then breaks through. He just wants to hang inside. Bobo kitty has been out a couple of times, but he does not like the ice either. He is sleeping on top of the warm cable box.

Had to wake up Big.Boy and yank some poor soul out of the ditch in front of the house. We got 6"+ and this guy is trying to joy ride in a lowered Honda Civic. Bet someone else will have to pull him out later on.

All four kids are out running around in it. Me? I'm staying inside, nice & warm. Smile My office was closed today, and hubby's, too - practically unheard of for both our offices. Smile

I did the same but stayed and tried to do some work. Out of 45 people, only 2 showed up.

I had figured last night I was staying home today. So I got up 5:30 as usual & checked the weather & the local news. That decided it - staying home. Then I connected in to the office & emailed the boss. Then stayed connected ever since, working anyway.
If I had been in the office I would at least have taken a lunch break! But at least it wasn't quite as hectic as if I had been at work!
And I was sorely tempted to walk over to that one nearby cache I've been saving for a rainy (or snowy) day!

Just found out tomorrow is a snow day, too. Or, more accurately, an ice day. Smile Another day of hibernation! Smile

No caching for me today, either, durn it. Not sure if Hwy 78 has been plowed at all, but the street we live off of (which is off of 78) is still a sheet of ice. Hubby just tried to go into work, and couldn't even make it off of our road. If hubby can't drive in it, it's gotta be pretty dang bad! Eek

Roads over here in Paulding are great. All major roads are down to water and side streets are water to slushy with icy patches in shaded areas. Overpasses are good as well.

Yeah, getting better her for sure. This morning early it was a nightmare around my house. Our streets had not been driven on so they were a sheet of ice. By about 2 or 3 PM most had evaporated away and I had shoveled the hot spots out of the driveway. We went out and checked out the surface streets around town and there are still some challenging areas, but it is getting much better. Some sun will burn off a lot, so hopefully we will get that tomorrow.

I finally got brave enough to sneak outta my house today to attempt this "work" thing again, LOL. Wow, what a NIGHTMARE that was!!! Much of Hwy 78 was OK, but once you got into/past Snellville, the nightmare began and it was horrible! North Druid Hills Road = Horrible, 85S = EXTREMELY Horrible, 75 N, mostly OK; Northside Parkway, not so much, at least not right by where my office was. Left home at 9:45 a.m., got to work at 1:05 PM. Eek Worked until 4:00. Left at 4:00 ON THE DOT. Got home at 7:45 PM. cursing

Nope, I'm not doin' THAT again tomorrow! No way, no how, nuh-uh!!!!!!!! Eek Likely I'll be working over the weekend and on Monday, which is fine by me, since everything will be nice & melted by then.

Sheesh.... Not a good day at all. The highlight of the day was walking in the office door, just as the catered lunch was delivered for those hardy (insane) souls who braved (were crazy enough to go out in) the elements to get there, LOL. Free food = WIN. ;-)

I got up at 5am on Monday as I had an 8:30 flight and Delta hadn't canceled it.

I'd never driven the old Land Rover to the airport before, but it seemed like a good day to do it. I did fine: got on I85 in Suwanee at 6am and make the 45 miles at 40 to 45 mph. It was the only time the Landy had driven that far on the interstate and passed everyone instead of being passed by everyone. Aggressive tire tread and four wheel drive is helpful on snowy roads.

My 8:30 flight boarded about an hour late, as the pilots were late, but then the "tug" couldn't push the plane away from the gate. They got a larger tug, but it just spun its wheels too as the plane jerked back and forth.

We all got off the plane and spent about an hour at the gate before getting back on the plane. They must have cleaned the ice off the tarmac as this time we were pushed away from the gate. We taxied over to the de-icing pad and spent a lot of time waiting for our turn.

We finally took off at 12:30: four hours late, but one of the few planes that did take off from Hartsfield Monday.

Then the next day the snow hit Pennsylvania, with about as much snow on the ground here in Harrisburg as we had in Atlanta. The snow fell overnight, and by the next morning the interstate and most surface streets were cleared of snow.

I guess they're a little better prepared for snow and ice in the Northeast. Wink

Hope it's all gone for my drive home from the airport Friday afternoon.

Yes they are. They actually salt and calcium the roads BEFORE the first snowflake falls.

If you see a yellow truck coming you better speed up or move out of its way cause its working and its going to continue to do so. They have to carry a certain amount of speed for the salt shaker to work and to throw the snow away from the road. Its not fun being around them really. You would think so.
