Can anybody point me to a good forum or can answer a question about hiking and socks? I need to know how to keep my feet dry while hiking. I have tried these REI Merino Wool Light Hiker and a couple of other pairs of socks I have, but I can't keep my feet dry and then I start getting rubs, etc. Should I wear something like this Injinji Tetratsok under my Merino socks? Or do I need to just change my socks every 4 miles?

My hiking boots are Merrell Continuum Vibram.

A great forum to go to is http://www.whiteblaze.net/ which is the forum most of the AT through hikers use....

As for me, I like to use sock liners. The are not as heavy as what you mentioned and I feel like they help. I also use the Smart Wool socks. Put over 100 miles on two pairs a couple of years ago at Yellowstone and had no issues with me feet at all...

Brands I can dig up if you really want me to but I absolutely swear by liner socks under a heavier hiking sock. Ankle height.
I have some great liner socks that are made by Under Armor. I wouldn't remeber except for the distinctive logo.
Acrylic for the liners, they tend to wick out moisture, for me at least. Acrylic or wool for the outer sock...
My feet tend to stay dry this way, as long as I don't step in a creek that's too deep!

Thanks guys. I really am not into brand names, but just needed a picture to explain what I was trying to say. I will check out some sock liners.

Thorlos Coolmax Hiking socks....accept no substitute.

$14 or so a pair unless you catch them on sale. I'd pay twice that for them if i had to, they're that good.

Ricky, you were a day late. Smile My wife went down Monday night and picked up a pair of the liner socks. I am torn between trying them out or taking them back. The problem is I am planning on doing some State Parks on Saturday and will need something. I guess I can take a couple of pair and change. I wasn't planning on going to REI tomorrow or Friday since I am going to be down there on Sunday.

Slayerette. I also got the same catalog. My wife wants me to find a good day pack to use and she is going to use it on that.

I am beginning to like REI more and more.

A quick REI tip.....each member of your family can become a member and each member gets a 20% coupon....this came in real handy for me when I bought a new tent, new sleeping bag, and new backpack.....used my coupon, my wife's and my sons.
