I am looking for a good area to go spend a weekend camping and caching. Does anyone have any recommendations for an area with 3 or more caches within hiking distance of camping areas? I would love for it to be in North Georgia somewhere in the mountains. The camping area doesn't have to be anything formal just enough room for a couple tents and permission to have a camp fire.
Lake Winfield Scott was nice. With a couple of good caches too. Blind As A Bat (GCH8PK) From Jarrard to Horsebone by Originally GeorgiaHikes adopted by AllenLacy (GC9EF6) Blood Mountain Micro by Superdogs (GCG75V) Blood Mountain by byoung57 (GC915)
Or Lake Rabun has a great Camping area. and a bunch of great caches around there too.

You could go to Amicalola falls. I did that last yea with lakebum and there are quite a few caches around the park (within hiking distance). You can use the old forest roads to get to some or hike along the AT for others. there is free camping on the back side of the park (WMA area or some sort of public land).
Tate City area would work! Good caches nearby would be Perfection, Eden, Beech Creek Beauty, Ranger Nick and a couple of others. When will you be camping? If it's not until April, I have some plans that would work for you!

Vogel State Park has great camping facilities and is near the Blood Mountain (GC915) and Blood Mountain Micro (GCG75V) cache (coming from the other direction from Lake Winfield Scott), as well as Where is the Cache (GC66A0), Helton Creek Falls (GCE7F2), DeSoto Falls Cache (GC21E), and Desoto Between the Falls (GCH1JD). All good caches.

I am hoping to be able to go in April or sooner depending on the weather.
I am taking my Troop to hike Smith Creek Trail from Anna Ruby Falls to Unicoi State Park over St. Patrick's Day weekend. I picked up the Tray Mtn and Helen quad topo maps at Bradford Maps in Sandy Springs, but the trail is not shown. It is also not on the Topozone maps. Has anyone done the 3 caches there, hiked the trail, and have it saved as a track to send me? We are considering hiking back up to the falls on Sunday and want to know how much of a climb it will be to allow for time to get back.

The 2 caches at either end of the trail are mine. Anna Ruby Falls is at 2700', and Unicoi cache is at 1800'. I don't have a saved track, but it takes about 3 hours to complete the 5 mile trail. It is an awesome hike that passes over Hickory Nut Ridge and Smith Mountain. Smith Creek Trail The trail is on my National Forest Map, although it is rather small and not much information. Enjoy!

Thanks phat.bak. We plan to do all 3 caches on the way down on Saturday. I have some new Scouts to demonstrate the hobby to. We'll take pictures at each one.

"Lacy Tribute" is a good place to camp.. well, on the approach, anyways. While that's the only cache there, there are defintiely a few more just down the road (almost literally), right off the AT..

Take your fishing gear, if you will have time. Smith Lake at Unicoi gave up two whoppers last week. A local landed a 8.5# & 11.9# black bass on the same day. Caught 'em both on live bait.
Where are my dynamite caps when I need 'em?

I happened to go by Duke's Creek Falls The falls are great, and only about a 1.4 mile hike down ... of course, the hike back up is not as easy, but still the whole thing's worth it. According to what I've seen, there is a camping area nearby as well, with access to the top of the falls also. Would also be near Blood Mountain, Anna Ruby Falls, etc ....
