Sorry about that. I thought I got them all.
2007Outstanding_NightCache.jpg 2007Outstanding_CacheTheme.jpg Congrats everyone! I am very honored that my New Manchester Manufacturing Company cache was selected as the outstanding virtual cache. It is one of my favorites and is such a beautiful place. |

This years' sample. If any one has a cache that has been nominated but did not win in their category, and you want a banner to display on your own cache page, email me thru my profile with the banner desired and a return email address, and I will send the banner to you. You will have to host it yourself on your own page. Congrats to all that were nominated. As it appears on a cache page: Along the Way #69 |

Its good to see some of the old classics like Wiseashe, Field Sobriety Test, and New Manchester Mfg Co on the list. Some of the newer ones go on my to-do list. Thanks to Mertat and DrPerp for a job well done.

Also, mtn-man has created a bookmark of all the GGA Outstanding Cache winners. Note: this bookmark hasn't been updated for the 2007 winners yet but will be soon. Thanks again to all who nominated and voted and to DrPerp for tallying all those votes! |

Thanks for the award for my "Puzzle Cache. No, really..." I did not realize it had won an award until someone asked me confirm coordinates today.

I think that this slate of winners is an excellent representation of GA caches. But I must admit to being saddened at the absence of some of my favorites.
I would hate to think that a visitor to GA may zero in on the latest and greatest list of caches and drive right past some of the best caches in the state just because the newness wore off of them. Would it be possible to create a "Hall of Fame" for caches in GA that have excelled or pushed the envelope or attracted admiration/respect over the years? I would like to see that list published as a bookmark so that visitors can see the Georgia's showcase of the best of the best. Perhaps it would be possible to present a slate (selected by an independant committee or something) of five caches per year (at the same time that the awards are being nominated) then let the membership vote yes or no for each cache nominated for the Hall of Fame. WHAT?!?! Seriously, what is the general opinion on the idea? A geocacher's nighmare: able to find hundreds of hidden boxes all over the world, yet can only find one sock when unloading the clothes dryer. |

I think the bookmark list of the past winners is a great idea. I think the person who would create such a list would be a scholar and a gentleman.
http://ggaonline.org/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9426060551/m/78...901077974#1901077974 I think that list pretty much shows which of those are some of the Hall of Fame type caches by winning multiple years. For example, Rocktown is on the list with five outstanding cache awards over the years. Several have three or two awards listed. The bookmark list is linked off of the Outstanding Caches web page on our GGA site. I am not sure of a better way to feature those caches other than that. What other way could you promote them? I think an additional category to vote on would be redundant with regard to the "Must Hit Cache" category. |

Perhaps mtn-man is right. I certainly appreciate the outstanding cache bookmarks and I try to hit them myself whenever I am near one and have the time to go after it.
But I must admit that when I am going to be in an area, I generally don't look farther back than one or two years at the most to see if there are any award caches in the area. I suspect out of state visitors would do the same. And in doing so they would miss great caches like Arhimedes Spiral, Rocktown, Invisible Cache, etc. These caches are just as fun now as they were in the early 2000s, but because they are not new, they seem to have fallen off the recent outstanding lists. I guess what I am suggesting is that there should be a list that recommended caches that have exceeded the normal "outstanding cache" mantle. I would like to see a listing of caches that exclude "one year wonders" and truly set apart the best of the best so that a visitor to GA can go to one place and get a listing of caches that will have them coming back for more. It would be Georgia's showcase for geocaching. A geocacher's nighmare: able to find hundreds of hidden boxes all over the world, yet can only find one sock when unloading the clothes dryer. |
