ErnieB Registered Geocacher (9/19/01 10:19:13 am) Converting decimals to min/sec I found a site I would like to explore further, but the coordinates are in xx.xxxx form and not xx.xx.xxx. Does anyone recall the conversion formula or the website to do it automatically? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AJLacy Registered Geocacher (9/19/01 11:11:22 am) Re: Converting decimals to min/sec There are a couple of ways, most GPS including my Garmin GPS III+ allows you to enter and display coordinates in several forms. You could set it to take them in decimal degrees, then change it back to degrees and minutes, the coordinates you just entered will be displayed in that form. But if you want to do it yourself. If a coordinate is dd.xxxx take 0.xxxx and multiply by 60 the result will be decimal minutes. so you will get dd mm.yyyy where mm.yyyy is the result of the math. Then if you wanted it in form dd mm ss.zzz where ss.zzz decimal seconds take 0.yyyy and multiply it by 60. |
