This is, in a roundabout way, related to geocaching, so I thought this would be the best forum for this.

I owe a HUGE thank you to KVOM for helping me yesterday. After hearing that I'd recently bought a 10 year old Jeep Wrangler for geocaching and trail riding, he offered to show me how to change the differential gear oil (since it had probably never been changed), and give me a tour of the workings of a Jeep.

It was a very instructional day, and I can't thank him enough for his willingness to give his time and knowledge so freely. It's obvious he really loves Jeeps. He loves talking about them, working on them, and driving them.

Any Jeep owner in the area would do themselves a favor by getting to know this guy.

I even got to grab a smiley that night after we finished, simply by walking down his driveway.

Thanks again KVOM!!!!

He and JB taught me how to safely 4x4 drive at the first NGORGE. I can't even imagine how much that experience is worth...but If I had to, I would probably guess it's about the same cost as a New Transmission. Wink

Yes, He does know his jeeps!

Just goes to show that no matter how much experience one has, or how prepared - 'stuff' happens.
Expect the best, but prepare for the worst - and cross your fingers. Right T3?

Ok, I've been watching different threads for details, but haven't seen any.

What the heck happened? Did the transmission depart the vehicle? Punch a hole? Strip all forward gears????

Well I got my car out of the shop today.
It was neither the transmission nor the transfer case.
I broke the left front Drive Axle.

Now for the rest of the story….

When I came home from making KVOM a drive-by cache, Peaches asked me how the day went. I of course said, “ We found the cache.” And by the way, I broke my car.

She did not ask “What Happen”, or what were you thinking, or “That was stupid of you”. Not a peep!
Instead she just said, “I’m just glad you are home safe”.

About now I am thinking I am the luckiest guy around. What a sweetheart...right… Or so I think. No questions, no rants, and no I told you so.

Well, Today, like I said, the Jeep dealership calls and said I could pick up my car. I asked Peaches to drive me over.

As we are going down the road Peaches passes the Jeep dealership. I ask, where are we going? She says, “you will see”.

She pulls into the “SALES” department of the Ford dealership… Well, one hour later Peaches is driving out with a new car. No I told you so, no what happen, no what were you thinking, no rants…… Just a new car! I’m such a lucky guy!

Making KVOM a drive-by… $700.00 for new axle
Keeping the wife happy… $40,000.00
Not having to tell the whole story and hear “what were you thinking’…….PRICELESS (well almost)

That is a funny story and an expensive adventure for you over all.

I think KVOM for Peaches might now stand for:

Kar Victory Of the Month

Yeah clap for Peaches! Sneaky bow

It's pretty weird that a broken axle shaft would prevent you from shifting out of 4wd. On a Wrangler you can fix that yourself for less than a $100. Guess a Grand Cherokee isn't really "trail-rated". Tounge

Next time lay off the skinny pedal you wild man!

Gosh...just guess I'm wondering when you'll go and find KVOM, despite anyone else's previous repairs.

Wow, that Peaches is the Queen of "get even spending". Lets see, $40,000 divided by $700 is a 57.1 to 1 ratio! If you do something a bit extravagant, like a new $80,000 boat, look out buddy - that's $4.6 million comin' back at ya.
