Dear KOTL*- I can't remember if I signed the sheet or not, but I am still planning to join the fun.

I will bring a hand truck to cart out the dryer as well as any geocachers who swoon after seeing how sparkly the park is when we're done. Wink

Safe caching to all!

This leads me to think there may be a difference in the perspective of the NPS folks and some of the GGA members on what this clean-up is about. I think the GGA members are thinking in terms of removal of large heavy objects as well as cans and scraps of paper. You cannot lift a dryer or water heater with a pick-up stick! Does the NPS see this as light trash removal only? In order to get the big stuff out, we probably would need to take some GGA members' light trucks or other utilility vehicles down the old road. Is all of this clear with the NPS? Are there objects and areas they do not want us to disturb?

I will have my pickup truck there and will be willing to help with either or both types of trash.

From groundspeak forums
International CITO Day T-Shirt

Jeremy mentions
A) Price $3
B) We could save on shipping cost if groups like GGA ordered a bunch then sold them.

Is much better than pouring used engine oil into a storm drain.

The previous was my reply when some lefty friends asked me about earth day.

I think Cache In Trash Out would be a great thing to print on T-Shirts for the GGA; Even donating some to friendly State Park Authorities.

Sorry to not pipe in earlier - I was in New Jersey last week with such a sh*tty internet connection that keeping up with these forums wasn't possible. Don't ask how my one and only cache hunt went up there either. Flaming Mad

I discussed with the NPS that we'd want to get vehicles back there to remove the large items like the clothes dryer, but I'm sure I'll have another chat about it with them before 4/26.

Those t-shirts sound cool. I nominate Allen to buy a hundred and sell them at cost at the next GGA meeting. Wink

Well Jeremy in this thread says

I'm considering some kind of consignment, so local orgs can just order a bunch of shirts and sell them at the event.
So I think an elected representative of GGA will need to make the contact. After all what do we pay the SC for anyway. Wink

And quite handsomely I might add. I may just quite my day job. NOT!

Well for an easier walk you could have done Davis Mill Cache afterwards. I think we can trust you not to take Mtn-man's Mystery prize. Anyway I think we could dig up another one if you want one.

I posted yesterday to that topic on the Groundspeak Forums that I thought the GGA would want some (look toward the bottom, 3-29 post). I will start a new topic and we can start getting a headcount.

As the event is getting closer is there any word on what kind of trash the NPS wants cleaned? As I said earlier, I will bring my truck and am willing to help with getting heavy stuff or light stuff or both. But would like to know what to expect.

Anyone know someone in the press? The clean up event would make a great public interest story.

Local Media suggestion; TV32. I'm sure anyone from the NE corner of Ga would have connections. TV32 is a CBS station and covers, well, NE Ga. I do know the Atlanta CBS station sometimes pick up their stories to run.

Thanks for delivering the photo Allen. That was one classy looking framing/matting job you had done. And that brass GGA plaque really set it all off. Smile

Did you get a chance to check out that huge log building they use for their meetings and for the superintendent's office? Pretty impressive. Our tax dollars at work. Wink

She said we took out 70 tires. The reason she knew was that the NPS had to pay $2 recycle fee per tire.

But she was impressed that it was framed, she expected just a copy of the photo. She said she was going to hang it in her office.
