You are absolutely right. I think the ISS cache is just for publicity. The 'beacon' and 'WhereiaintGoin' is just pushin' older model GPS' out of the picture. Progress? - I think not ... what a shame. There are a few people that are working on a hack to download multiple caches without a subscription. Hmmmmm ......

I think Jeremy addressed the chirp pretty well in that posting quoted above. I guess I view it sort of like the UV light caches we are just now starting to see here, but have been common in Europe for years. Yes, special equipment is needed that many of us don't have, but there will always be caches that some of us won't be able to get to or to find for one reason or another. It does keep the game interesting, though, to have new concepts like this pop up. Perhaps it will be like Wherigo in that people will come up with apps for smart phones to receive chirp signals. ~erik~

| It's about the journey |
I can remember my first GPS. No automotive cord, no color screen, no map sets, no auto route, no GPX files, no WAAS, no sharing waypoints wirelessly, I don't remember being able to link it to the PC and it had poor reception. Every time I upgraded to a newer generation of GPS I told myself, "this is the last GPS I'll ever need". Every time I upgraded I enjoyed geocaching more.
