OK, Wanna Go group. I'm free of heathen, ornery, and felonous teens in just one more week! I need to see the great outdoors. I need to be in the company of adults. (Even if you're heathen, ornery and felonous.)

What would be a cool trip for us? You guys did the waterfall w/o me. And, I'm not quite sure what else.

Wanna Go originated when I felt uneasy doing "Portland Caves" alone. I'd really like there to be someone else there to either call 911 or the coroner. So, part of the challenge is that it be something a tad challenging, but not overwhelming for the fat, old, gimp.

I also want it to be fun, fun, fun. What cache is there out there that you think we should consider? Or, alternatively, what cool place is there out there that needs a cache -- or a visit and has caches around it?

I have spent some time searching the internet looking for caves, big trees, and some other interesting natural sites in Georgia. But, you folks will know lots more than I do about what might be interesting.

I now have wheels that I can trust to take me places, so if it's a bit of a drive I can get there now and even take one other with me (it's a pick up).

Thoughts anyone? I've even thought about the possibility of a camping cache so we could do a night cache. Good? Not our cupa tea? I'm just open to ideas. Let's go some where and PLAY!!!! I NEED FUN!!!! I NEED fun!!

Stone Door Earthcache The pix of this place and the description sound fabulous.

I'd like the fancy little Earthcache symbol on my profile too. Wink

However, has anyone done this? I've e-mailed the owner to get a better idea of the length of the hike into the location. I don't know about most of you folks, but it makes a huge difference if it's a 1 mile or 5 mile or 25 mile hike! Elevation changes are listed as "moderate" so I'm guessing if the old lady goes slow, I can manage it.

I like this suggestion a LOT, AG. Any other out there?

I've wondered about pairing up with another state's group. One idea I had was meeting in Summerville, and catching some caches up that way, getting with our Alabama Caching neighbors and during the course of the caching day, visiting this place: Sequoyah Caverns

Don't know if the Wanna Go crew would be interested in combining caching and visiting a natural site like this. We could certainly talk to the owners about the possibility of placing a cache.

I have to say, I've looked and looked for some caches in central Georgia to explore another part of the state. I know some of the Wanna Go crew would like to not have to drive 200+ miles to participate. So, if there are some cool sites down that way, someone needs to grab my attention by giving me some ideas. I haven't found anything on my own that just totally grabs my attention -- yet.

Thoughts? Preferences? Experiences? Ideas?

I had asked AB4N the distance of Stone Door before my last trip to TN. It's either 3 or 4 mi RT. I cannot remember what he told me, but I know it's no more than 4 mi. total.

Birdies, just a couple for you in Central Ga. In Macon Friar Tuck is a must do. A Hunting We Will Go is also there and is on Allen Lacy's list of lonliest caches. I'm not sure why it is so ignored, but people have seemed to make the multistage part of this more difficult than it is. Both of these are in town, though at Friar Tuck it will be difficult to remember that you are. I've always pushed State Quarter Depository which is in a isolated area between Dublin and Irwinton. To me one of the best micros (albeit in the woods) that there is. There is also another regular cache (Lure Exchange) within 500 ft. If you head this way, I will be happy to give a few more suggestions.

I've been thinking about heading down to Macon for a while now. Seems to be a lot of historical micro's down that way. I do know I've been wanting to go see the mounds for years. I first went many years ago in school and have wanted to go back ever since. So I might just do that in a couple of weeks. (Sans Orpheus up there doesn't plan any Astronomical observings I have to go to and help out with.) I don't remember that much about the mounds other than it was a really neat place seeing the burial mounds and going inside one that was a meeting area. Funny thing is I can never remember the name of the area, but if I look it up I recognize it immediately.

Edit: Ocmulgee Indian Mounds is coming to mind..Pretty sure thats the name.

Last day of school today with the kiddies!!!! Yeah, they're GONE.

A few more days of teacher torture, and then I'm free!

Still open to ideas.

There are mounds at Ocmulgee that are not open to the general public. However, from time to time the Rangers will conduct a guided tour of them. I'm out of town for a couple/three days but if y'all want I'll see about arranging an outing for us when I get back.

Thanks for the referral, Tarvol! One of the steps necessary to score Swamp Fever requires you to go into the restored mound.

Pick some Fridays since I always have them off.

I'll get the wed for wanna go off, but won't be able to do that all the time.

Being fairly new to this, are all the wanna go events on Wednesdays? Outside of the obvious smaller crowds, any particular reason for it? Unfortunately I'm stuck M-F with precious little off days. TIA.

Yeah. I agree with the sentiments about picking days other than Wednesdays. While I certainly can take the odd wednesday off, I prefer to be able to go on a thursday or Friday or something. Much easier to be able to go then and just go without having to hope I can get the time off.

The Wanna Go Crew picked Wednesdays in the begining
for the older and all others that are blessed with the abilty to take that day off to go to a geo-event. This is a very nice thing for us that don't like the heavy traffic, crowds, waiting in lines to go to restrooms and so on. That don't mean that we will not ever have a wanna go on another day of the week if something special comes along that we can't pass up so to speak.
Meanwhile we will enjoy the Wednesday Wanna Go.

Looks like the next one will be June 22 2005.
It is still in the planning stage, but should be the best one up till now. Great stuff for that day for all to enjoy.

Understood. That unfortunately leaves me out. Maybe someone could plan a few wanna go events for the weekends. Thanks for the reply.
