This was just posted in DixieCachers.com and I thought I might share it here. I'm sure some of our guys already know about it but wanted to pass it along...please feel free to delete if not appropriate:

Hey ya'll
Just thought I would drop a note about something we have seen here in Northern Virginia on the increase..Fake caches. We have had 5 in the last two weeks that are advertised as micro's placed by a newbie. In the first couple of days there is several posts of DNF's from very expierienced cachers in the area followed up by a newbie find and a somewhat taunting log. We first noticed the issue when it seemed that there were roughly 4-5 scrren names that were common to each cache whether as a hider or a finder. I hope this does not spread, just a BOLO.

Happy caching

Not here so much. N. VA had a rouge cacher who got angry at the others and was acting out. This sounds up his alley.

A rouge cacher? That just makes me see red! Big Grin

I heard of that fellow but haven't encountered him up there yet. Maybe if I'm unlucky I will. Frown

It's a who... and he has become a Plutoed Member

He got busted cheating down here. I don't think he's been back. He took a virtual trip through georgia trying to rack up his numbers and the cache owners took offense.

I'm not familiar with the term Plutoed Member. What is that?

Yes, I did (along with others). To keep his numbers aloft, he now logs some caches on his own archived caches when he gets caught.
Plutoed Member certainly fits.
From Wiki: "Plutoed is a neologism chosen as the 2006 Word of the Year by the American Dialect Society. The Society defined that word as "to demote or devalue someone or something".

He just keeps slamming his rougeness in our faces. But that's OK with me ... I'm in my HAPPY Place!

I'd never heard of him but he must have done something wrong to get that title.
I looked at his profile gallery and see lots of pics of logs. He must have to "prove it" now.
You'd think he'd be embarassed to go to events.
Sounds like his caching addiction got the better of him!

Sounds like someone is under the mistaken impression that a high found count makes your pee pee bigger or something...

So that's the problem ... and I thought it was the cold weather. I am doing 50 drive-by-micros tomorrow.

The thread is about the reason for fake hides and fake finds, so no need to do 50 drive-bys, just boost your find count by loggin 50 geocaches no need to actually find them, then you'll get the effect.
