PROBLEM!!! from the "exterminator"

Well I have just been informed by a fellow cacher that my cache has been muggled. HOWEVER the log book is still there along with the cache container. Everything else is gone and there is a ransom for the TBs that were in it.

I figured I would post this here to see if I can get help from everyone.

I have pictures of the log entry and think we all need to figure something out and do something about it. It looks like this will not be the last "attack"

I have notified the TB owners and have linked them to this thread. Here are the missing TBs:

Here is a little background and pretty much all in know..

I know there is nothing you can DO about this but thought I would drop you a note. Please see my log entry for your cache in the Peachtree Ridge park, Chase's favorite things. None of the trackable items listed for this cache (or anything else for that matter) are in the container and the last entry in the log book is a bit odd. Thanks for the nice cache, but if the person before me was a really nasty muggler you may consider pulling this one from service.

Thank You

Found today with grandsons, but unhappy and confused by what we found. Cache container intact and ok, but (essentially) empty. The log and pen are there, and the laminiated paper with an explanation of geocaching is there, but nothing else. The last log entry is signed by the "terminator". I didn't memorize the entry but it went something like this: "...I've taken all you bugs...holding them for ransom....as for everything else in here, kiss it goodbye..." The entry is dated 12/27/09. Really don't quite know what to make of this. Anyway, we dug thru the swag we were carrying and left 3 or 4 small items so there would at least be a few items in container for the next legit cacher. Love the park and we enjoyed the hunt.

I put what I remembered of the entry in my online log for our visit to the cache, but couldn't remember it verbatum. So, I went back and made a picture of the log entry from the cache container. The Jan 1, 2010 entry is mine. I suppose it could just be a real cacher being "cute", but it just doesn't feel right. Anyway, I live in the area so if you need someone local to do something for the cache feel free to ask.

Thanks.

My "We've Got Bugs!!!..." cache was hit by The Exterminator as well several months back. Unfortunately, at the time it was loaded with tradables (some of them with a very cool history.) Not sure what we can do, especially if this muggle is truly getting rid of the TBs. I'd like to get them back into circulation, for the owner's sake if nothing else, but not sure how to do it.

Additionally, I'd bet that these caches are on a watchlist, too. As such, they may be vulnerable to "attack" again, which would really be unfortunate. Any ideas?

Every time geocaching is mentioned in our local paper some cachers clap and cheer. We cringe.

You and the TB owners have our sympathies. We've quit putting out TBs and geocoins, except as unactivated ones as a trade item or FTF prize, although we still get a kick out of moving one along.

Sadly, no solution comes to mind. Chalk it up to a few bad apples spoiling it for the whole barrel.

This "problem" is going to make me pick up TBs and coins from caches more often, even if there are multiples. It is better now in Atlanta to keep them "on the road" than in the cache. As long as we make that a practice, a moving target is hard to grab.

I like the game camera idea. Maybe a decoy cache should be setup??
