I was just curious how many of you have had a cache go missing?

I've only placed one, yet within weeks it was gone. I waited awhile to replace it, thinking vandals would go away if nothing replaced it immediately.

It's back, better than ever, but I'm still curious about how often this happens.

I had a 1-star micro go missing. On further reflection I decided it wasn't placed properly (poorly placed, poorly hidden). I archived the listing and moved on; I don't hide 1-star micros any more.

I've had one in Athens stolen three times, one in Tribble Mill park stolen once. Well, actually someone stole that one's ammobox, but left the cache contents.

I had one in Suwanee stolen. I replaced it, then whoever took it returned it and the next finder reported finding two ammo boxes sitting side by side. Go figure. Confused

I think it has happened to everyone who has had caches out there for awhile. Living in the city like I do, I've lost a couple of caches to homeless campers. Hey, I hope there was something they could use in there. In both cases, it has just forced me to find a more secure location. I'm about to replace my oldest cache for the third time - the park keeps changing, and what were two good hiding spots are no longer viable. It's just part of the game.

I placed two in Bangkok, Thailand, and they were taken pretty quickly. One had a single finder, and the other none. It's very hard to place a cache in a crowded urban environment like that. Also placed one in Leon, Nicaragua, and it went missing before anyone logged a find. I replaced it this year and it's had one find so far.

My cache in Sawnee Park was stolen 3 times, and I finally archived it.

Ammo boxes in the forest seem to last the longest.

I just found out that my Kid's Kache was stolen ... just the ammo can. All the stuff was just dumped on the ground for the next finder to find.

That one had been totally undisturbed for 6 years and 3 months.

It's a shame that I will probably have to archive it. A lot of first timers have started there and the fire department uses it to train how to use their GPS's.

Boy. People make me sick.

Hey Slayerette I went and picked up all the items that were left behind. Looks like someone just wanted the ammo box. Could not have been taken long ago as the indentation where it was beside the tree was still there so I woul say a week or 2 at the tops since it was taken. The log book is still in good shape, slightly damp but OK I dried it out in the sun today. LMK when you get back. / mcellen

Thanks McEllen!

I'll come by probably later today and pick it up. I'll give you a call first.

Thanks for helping me out on this one.
