FYI
"I met yesterday with Sharon Collins, producer for Georgia Outdoors, to discuss show possibilities for next season. I know we're all still awaiting final budget news, but we need to move ahead with planning. GPB is very, very committed to Outdoors - more so than they have been in many years - and unless we flatly tell them we have no money for the series, I feel confident they will help us come up with a way to produce another season. The number of episodes, however, will be determined in large part by the amount DNR contributes. (The current season is the first time we have aired only 8 new shows. Prior seasons had 12 shows.)
As you have no doubt noticed, the shows are being handled a bit differently than in the past. We used to plan for 3 or 4 segments or mini-stories per episode. GPB now wants to explore topics in more depth, with each episode devoted to one primary story idea. So far, the episodes that are being planned for next season include 1) bats 2) frogs 3) watershed (probably Altamaha) 4) geocaching These are not yet confirmed but are being strongly considered, and some filming has already been done for bats and frogs. All of these ideas, by the way, originated within DNR.
GPB has a list of other ideas which they have not yet shared with me. They would like to incorporate our ideas and come back to us with a proposal for the full season. To that end, I would like to gather suggestions from each division and compile them into one master list. You can decide within your divisions how you would like to solicit ideas. I don't think we will be meeting with GPB as a group to discuss this, so the more information you can provide, the better. I would like to receive your story ideas by the end of next week. Please let me know if this presents a problem for anyone.
Thanks to all of you for your help with this. Please feel free to call me if you have questions or want to talk about any of this.
Becky PS - The next new episode of Georgia Outdoors is Okefenokee Swamp. It is scheduled to air on April 28."
