I need help. I was hiking with my Troop this weekend on the AT from Woody Gap, north to Neels Gap. We stopped for a break on Saturday and one of my curious Scouts found a cache box at approx N34 41.228 W83 59.643. I figured that it wasn't on my GPSr due to the fact that I had already found it. I blindly dropped 3 TBs into the container while another caching Scout signed the logbook. He said that he thought the name of the cache was "She Said Yes". Was there a cache at this location by that name? And did I drop these TBs in a defunct cache? Finally, if someone is hiking this section of the AT soon, can they pick the TBs up? Go Jackets!

Not a clue. I only answered this because I looked at my old Georgia cache Database. It had most of the old and archived caches in it. I did a fuzzy look-up for the name and I also looked at all the caches that were around there. I didn't find anything that could have been it. Sorry. The only other person I think might have any inkling would be Allen. This message has been edited. My suggestion would be to do a search for the cache by coordinate. I did that and didn't find any cache nearby by that name. The closest ones were by the couple Hannah and the Owl. My question would be is why would you deposit 3 TB's into a container when you didn't even know if this was an active cache or even a cache? It is one of the reasons that TB's go missing all the time. You have to be sure of where you place them. If it were me I would go back and retrieve the TB's and place them in a known cache. Just my opinion for what it's worth.

Could it be a Letterbox?

It is possible that it could be a mystery cache. Jim ____________________ We make difficult caches even more so.

I looked at my database and with fuzzy logic of the words Jerry gave "She Said Yes" wasn't in anything that would qualify up there. If it's before 2009 it's in the DB. if it's afterwards... someone would have known of the cache. But then again... you never know. and it's at least more helpful than chastising Jerry. ----------------------- Quality Over Quantity!!! -----------------------

I did some poking around too and didn't find anything. JMT, if it comes to it I'm off the Thursday & Friday before Christmas. I might just head up that way and initiate a rescue. And to everyone else wanting to nitpick - bravo to JMT for trying to make things right. Stuff happens.

It's an unsubmitted cache hidden in late October. It's listed as being in Tennessee. Don't know why it was never submitted. Caches aren't allowed in the AT corridor, including a buffer zone on either side of the actual trail, so perhaps that factored into it? ~erik~

Thanks for all of the suggestions and research! I knew that it had to be something semi-legit. It looked like a legit cache. I may just team up with Dr Mole for an AT trip to retrieve it. The well being of the TBs weigh heavy on my mind. Go Jackets!

Okay, this is driving me crazy! I am totally acronym-challenged. "AT" is the Appalachian Trail, right? Why aren't caches allowed there, and how deep is the buffer zone? Thanks! "Life is tough, but I am tougher."

Yes, you are correct, they are referring to the Appalachian Trail. I will start a new topic with additional information so not to "high jack" the topic in this thread.

If you were referring to my comment about putting Tb's into a cache, I wasn't chastising anyone. I was just making a simple statement about making sure that TB's are placed into a known cache. He said in his statement that he wasn't sure if it was a legitmate cache or not. I was just reiterating what he said. Peace Out!!!

Hey.. A first to find. Sweet. Close only counts in Horseshoes, hand-grenades and geocaching. ~ltblarg

Interesting... Jerry, was the log clean?

The logbook was clear, but we thought that it had just been replaced. It was well stocked. Even more now with 3 TBs in it! Go Jackets!

And it's confirmed. I can & will make a run up there for The Great TB Rescue on the 23rd. Jerry too if he can juggle the work schedule. Given what Erik discovered makes me wonder if the whole container ought to be retrieved. Maybe Erik can put us in touch with the owner?

The cache owner is a student, according to his profile page, so may be busy with final exams at this time and unable to relocate his cache. I'm not sure it's appropriate to do so for him. I've sent him an e-mail with a link to this discussion and invited him to join in. ~erik~
