We are planning to go to the April GGA Meeting and this will be our first trip to Helen. Since we're a couple hours away, we're thinking of staying overnight, and wondering if anyone has recommendations on places to stay (or places to avoid!).
We tried to get one at the lodge in the park but it was full....would have loved to book a cabin but it required a two night minimum and we are driving up that day.... the lady at the park recommended The Country Inn & Suites in Helen where we have a reservation.....706-878-9000

Helen is a tourist town. There are hotel/motels there from almost every major chain. It is also within easy driving distance of other nearby towns...Hiawassee, Blarisville, Clevleand, Dahlonega, etc.
A geocacher's nighmare: able to find hundreds of hidden boxes all over the world, yet can only find one sock when unloading the clothes dryer.

Tarvol, we were hoping to get a cabin too - there are so many great choices in that area - but drat that two night minimum! So we opted for the Hampton Inn.
Sparc, I knew there would be a lot choices in Helen, and in my experience with tourist towns, there are some hotels that look good on paper (or on the screen) but then the reality is much different. I'm just hoping to avoid one of those stays and thought maybe a local or past visitor would have some good tips on that, or if there was a particular 'oh, you've GOT to stay here!' sort of place.
Looking forward to next week and seeing everyone there!
