So I get this log on one of my cemetery caches...

It said they found the cache last night at 12:30ish a.m.!

Please look at this cache page and tell me if you think this cache should be hunted after dark.

I was so annoyed that I deleted the find. That's the first time in a long time I've done that.

What's wrong with people?

Did you send a note explaining why you deleted their find? Hopefully they'll understand and come back again during the day.

Not everyone reads the cache pages, sometimes I don't on purpose just to add to the difficulty. However, not reading them can certainly result in you not having information necessary to complete the find or in your case, follow the rules.

If I didn't read the cache page, and ended up having a problem with the cache or with my Find as a result of it, I certainly wouldn't complain about it.

No a lot of people do not read cache pages and it is annoying! I have seen people defend not reading the cache page but it is an important part of cache hunting. Too often people run the PQ, download and go with no research or anything.

We had some emails from a cacher saying our cache was too hard for them and they did not like it. They did not find it and did not read the cache page which describes it is a difficult to find cache. They only looked at it being a micro and expected it to be a PNG. They even admitted they did not look at the difficulty, still they were mad at us, sheesh! They told me it was immediately going on their permanent ignore list....which is just fine with me.

Now THAT is a feather in your cap. Be proud!

Yes Mushtang, I emailed the finder before deleting the find. I also explained exactly why and reminded them that it is also unlawful to be in a private cemetery after dark.

That cache page is exactly the way it was. Please note both the icons with the NO through them and the last paragraph of text.

There is no defense for not reading the cache page. None whatsoever. That page is a description of the cache that gives dos and don'ts, rules and regulations, and assistance to keep someone from walking into an area that may get their head blown off.

I can understand not reading the logs. But I don't even skip that step after a run in with some bad characters at a cache. If I had read the log entries I would have seen that the area's neighbors were getting progressively more hostile with each cache visitor. I was just the lucky one to be chased by 4 big scary guys trying to protect their chop shop around the corner.

The page is there for a reason. Yes sometimes people put too much information on the page and give away the hide. But there is no excuse not to read the page. People who don't, risk jeopardizing the sport. You think I'm blowing this out of proportion...Look at the fiasco in SC about their cemetary caches. I think we dodged that bullet, but not by much. They used log entries of idiots bragging about their illegal antics and branded us as having reckless disregard to any laws and that we were just plain miscreants and criminals.

I think you did right. I have done it before as well. You don't deserve a smiley from me if you break the law.

Thanks for the support Slay. At least you can see where I am coming from on this.

I never did get a reply from the finder nor have they relogged the cache.

For local caches, I don't read the cache pages online before going out. However, I do have all the caches loaded in Cachemate and before attempting a cache, I do read the description then.

In this case that would have been enough to see the last paragraph which clearly states that the gates are locked at night.

It would be nice if attributes were included with PQ's for just such situations like this.

When I'm out of town, I always read the cache pages online. I tend to research ahead of time which caches look interesting so I don't waste my limited time while traveling.
