I was up on Lake Lanier this weekend doing some work on some of my caches. Looks like a boat sank near 'King Tree Island' and all of the debris washed ashore. We saw foam plates migrating across the lake with no trash bags to put them in or an easy with to pick them up. Feels like a Lanier event needs to happen along with a CITO too.
Today I got an e-mail from the Lake Lanier Association about a Spring Shore Sweep. The following is the information. The ARDSC use to help with this event but we cleaned up the bottom of the lake! Maybe we could do some of the islands? John Law "The Lake Lanier Association will hold a mini Shore Sweep on April 28, 2007 at five locations around Lake Lanier as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Lake Lanier. The event will take place from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., and volunteers may pick up bags to collect trash from the shoreline at five locations on the lake; Sawnee Campground on Buford Dam Road, Gainesville Marina, Port Royal Marina (formerly Lan Mar Marina), Nix Bridge Park and Lake Lanier Islands. Trash and Styrofoam may be taken to all locations except Lake Lanier Islands where volunteers may enter at no charge through the main gate to collect trash. In return for a full bag of trash, the volunteers will receive either a free Shore Sweep 2007 T-shirt or, for scouts, a Shore Sweep 2007 patch, and an invitation to the Shore Sweep volunteer appreciation party which will take place after the 19 th Annual Shore Sweep on September 29, 2007. In 2006, over 1,000 volunteers collected 28 tons of trash from Lake Lanier during the 18th annual Shore Sweep. So please join us to get Lake Lanier ready for its 50th anniversary of recreation! For more information, please call the association at 770.503.7757 or visit our web site at www.lakelanier.org where more details will be posted soon. The link posted by JoeBids and the Lake Lanier clean-up info from Astro diver are not the same thing, are they? Is the Lake Lanier clean-up associated with the US Army Corps of Engineers? The other one appears to be in the NPS park below the dam, where the geocaches were "confiscated" by the NPS.

Should have said: "We've got one going too".
Hopefully the "confiscated" will invert with some of our good will. Don't say you can't, say you'll try. |
